The 2022 RAM 1500 Classic will feature the Evasive Steering Assist feature, designed to help drivers avoid a crash by automatically applying the brakes and steering in the direction of oncoming traffic. The feature may sound similar to automatic emergency braking (AEB), but it is more advanced as it requires no intervention from the driver. The system uses radar sensors behind the rearview mirror to detect vehicles in front of you, and it can even sense when a car ahead has slowed down due to an obstruction such as construction or traffic lights. It then automatically applies the brakes and steers into an evasive maneuver if necessary. The system can also be overridden by pressing a steering wheel button or off traction control. It is not clear if this feature will be available on other RAM models at this point, but it would also make sense for them. If unsure about this feature, you can turn it off in the settings menu if you do not want it active during your drive. It is also possible to customize how much force is applied when using an evasive steering assist by adjusting its sensitivity level through the settings menu.
